Introducing FLIP
Astrolab's technology
demonstration
platform

FLIP will be Astrolab’s first rover to deploy on the lunar surface, scheduled to land at the Lunar South Pole in December 2025 as part of Griffin Mission 1.

“Bringing FLIP to the Moon offers an opportunity to demonstrate and test many of the critical technologies that will advance the commercial FLEX vehicle, and serves as an innovative platform for scientific research in its own right.”

— Jaret Matthews, Founder & CEO Astrolab

FLIP is a key step in Astrolab’s rapid spiral development approach: design-build-test-fly cycles that demonstrate increased capabilities and incorporate lessons learned during development and qualification testing.

FLIP will mature a number of components and subsystems that will be used on FLEX, including full-sized batteries, tires, avionics systems, sensors, and software.

FLIP offers customers opportunities to gather valuable science data, including effective ways to mitigate the risks that lunar dust poses to vehicles, structures, and spacecraft systems on the Moon’s surface.

FLIP has capacity to bring technologies and payloads to the Lunar South Pole.

Powered by Innovation

FLIP features Venturi’s unique hyper-deformable Lunar wheels, engineered to be highly malleable while remaining long-lasting and robust. These are the same wheels that will be used on FLEX.

Engineered for Extremes

Astrolab’s strategic partner Venturi designed a bespoke battery enclosure that ensures consistent performance and enables FLIP to store enough energy to survive the lunar night.
